What I learned from food styling my own film.

Role: Writer, Editor, Producer, Motion graphic designer

Idea

It’s no surprise that independent filmmakers have to wear multiple hats.

For my short film Cooking With Claudia, I had to step into the role of food stylist. Partly because of budget constraints, but also because we were recreating a traditional Salvadoran dish, and I was the only Salvadoran on set.

The experience taught me so much that I decided to create a video essay sharing some of the tips and tricks I learned from the process.

The Style

For this project, I wanted to incorporate playful animations to illustrate some of the film concepts presented in the video.

The animations add a pop of color to the video and help keep the audience engaged with the information.

Behind The Scenes

For every project, I try to capture some behind-the-scenes footage during the shoots. It helps create a bit of buzz in the weeks leading up to the video’s release.
